Broadsheet Project, black and white

Broadsheet Project, black and white

In this project we had to create an A2 broadsheet, a kind of letter. We had to pick a celebrity or company we wanted to write fan mail or hate mail to, then produce an A2 design to eventually silk-screen print.
I chose to write fan mail to Sir Quentin Blake, because he inspired me to draw as a child. The poem on my design was written by me to imitate poems he illustrates. The imagery is of me (the girl hanging off the balloon) and a series of characters which Blake illustrated, I’m trying to save the mouse from ‘The Witches’ from the Grand witch grabbing my leg. I feel bad for Esiotrot, the poor tortoise biting for dear life.
We then had to silk screen the design on A2 paper which is quite hard and which we discovered requires one person pushing and one pulling the squeegee. My best print is rolled up in a poster tube ready to send to Quentin Blake, I just haven’t got round to it just yet
